![]() You can pull up the phone most of time in the VN and read through previous mail. ![]() The main character has a smartphone that he sends and receives mail on constantly. Hatsukoi has a very interesting feature that’s replicated and improved upon in Tone Work’s’s (yes, the “‘s” is apparently part of the studio’s name) works afterward. So I guess it took me a little over four months to read it. It says 30–50 hours on vndb, so something like that, I guess? I can’t really gauge it because I read it for the first time as I TLed, which is par for the course for me. I have absolutely no idea what to tell you in terms of how long it takes to read. The girls don’t necessarily use very stereotypical archetypes (tsundere etc.) and if anything, they’re all super adorable and cuddly in their routes. Maybe a little better than average? It’s cute, it’s vanilla, it melts the heart. So I looked around and found Hatsukoi, by the same studio, and told Irru I wanted to do it based almost entirely on Runa’s character design. Specifically, I said I wanted to do Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai, but he vetoed that saying it was too long to start out with. I knew that I enjoy translating things much more than I enjoy just reading or watching them, so I asked Irru if he wanted to work on TLing a visual novel with me. Just couldn’t enjoy reading or watching it. I spent an average of 40 hours or so every week for more than four months on this, with absolutely no compensation other than the usual feelsies I get from translating something with cute girls in it.įor those of you that don’t follow the other blog, the story for Irru and I doing Hatsukoi is because I was down in the dumps after Nisekoi had ended and so we were trying to find a bunch of moege to read and cute anime to watch. I’m still going to briefly talk about the translation quality in this review, as I think there are still a few things that I can say myself about it, but you the reader should know that I am hideously, hideously biased toward liking this VN. I translated Hatsukoi 1/1 for the English patch. I’m going to open this review with an amusing conflict-of-interest statement. I would recommend this VN if you like things like Noble ☆ Works-lots of pretty vanilla cutesy romance, with a bit of slightly forced drama that the characters have to overcome to deepen their relationship. The longer, more subjective, rambling review follows. Though the girls are pretty much always pretty good, the writing quality of Hatsukoi is inconsistent, resulting in a slightly confusing read at times. As per usual for this kind of VN again, the quality of the writing in the routes varies. With a somewhat lengthy common route and five routes, Hatsukoi is really only for people that are interested in the girls, as is typical for this genre. Hatsukoi 1/1 is a long romance visual novel by Tone Work’s with an extremely typical setting for the genre, very good art, a good soundtrack, and wonderful voice acting. ![]() I always get so, so, soooo attached to the stuff I translate.Īgain.
